Picture
What is ADD/ADHD?

ADD is an abbreviation for Attention Deficit Disorder.  It is a neurobilogical condition. Researchers believe that the symptoms are caused by chemicals in the brain that are not working properly and it causes the person to be inattentive.

ADHD is an abbreviation for Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder.  It is in a lot of ways similar to ADD except it causes the child to be hyperactive and impulsive.

Important Information about ADD/ADHD:

Ive read that sometimes parents may feel a little isolated and recieve little support and understanding from others.  It is all the reason why I have chosen to take this path and reach out to those of you whom this may be true for.  ADD can be hard to cope with, because it is whats known as an invisible condition.  Its not something that you can view just by the appearance of someone.  Please, we must try to keep in mind that this is a condition that effects some of the inner not the outter.  Researchers state that people with such a condition tend to have a significant talent of some sort.  In my case, I have found that my child is an extremley excellent artist.  The drawings show such self expression that it amazes me.  Its been this way since my child was young.  I am so proud to say that my child is very talented and shines like the brightest star in the sky.

Researchers have also found that its so very critical for loved ones to learn everything they can about ADD/ADHD.  They feel that the more you know about it, the more effective you will be at helping the loved one.  That would also mean that it is of great importance to have an educated teacher, physician, and any other adult in their lives. It makes a lotta sense.  If we were out seeking new furniture we first do research on who has the best deals with quality right?  So why not do it for someone who is essentially one of the most important people in your life?  It also makes the adjustment for them so much easier to cope with.  Youre doing an outstanding job at it now by reading the information posted on this page.  Great job showing support!

Some of the behaviors that come along with the condition are inattentiveness, hyperactivity (ADHD), conflict with others, unorganized, laziness, sleep issues, easily frustrated and tardiness.  These are all things that could make life a little difficult.  This is one of the reasons that it is so important to be educated about it.  I cant state it in any better way but, this is valuable to their success in life.

"Is this something that my child can grow out of?"  The unfortunate answer to that question is no.  Attention Deficit is not something that you just outgrow.  Its a condition that is with you for life.  But that doesnt mean that you should allow it to control ones destiny.  Live and have fun doing it!  You just may have to try a little harder.  But with love and support from the necessary people, you will succeed!  There are many success stories of people with ADD.  Graduates of not just high school, but college as well.  These successful people took the journey and bloomed like wildflowers in life.  Become one of those people and bloom.  If your not the one with the disorder, then stand steadfast and strong beside the one with it, by showing the main ingredients...LOVE AND SUPPORT!

If you know someone with such a success story, please dont hesitate to contact us at [email protected], and we will gladly recognize and post the success on our site.  Thank you in advance.

What is Autism?

Picture
Again my fellow readers, I am no expert, but I do want to share with you information I have found.  Autism is a developmental disability.  It is a neurological condition that affects the functions of the brain that controls communication and social interaction.  Some of the symptoms of this disorder are that they may repeat a words/phrases, difficult time with social interactions, little/no interest in making friends, play socially, rocking of the body, and disturbances in nonverbal behavior (eye-to-eye gaze, facial expressions, gestures and body gestures).

I know that this may be a lot to take in and seems overwhelming, but with the right resources and understanding the condition itself will help.

Researchers state that at this time, there is no medication to correct the condition, but there are medications available (if you choose) that will help reduce the behaviors that make it difficult to function.  Also there is behavioral therapy available that has been heard to be hekpful in minimizing negative and in some, has returned them to more normal functioning.

In my research, I have also found that there is also another type of Autism called Aspergers Syndrome.  Some of the sypmtoms are extreme difficlty in social interactions, repetitive patterns of behavior, interests, and activities such as hands, fingers, or whole body movements.

Researchers state that depending on the severity of the sypmtoms/behavior, treatment may include, individual/family therapy and medication is often used.

Again, please keep in mind that I am daily continuing to research new information.  I will update the site with it as I educate myself so that I may pass it on to you.

We will continue to support one another and will always be a positive support system for our loved ones.
